Musquash MPA Planning Group

The Musquash MPA Planning Group was formed in Winter 1999.

Mandate: to facilitate input from, information flow to, and representation of community, NGOS, and Government Agencies [with respect to the designation and management of the Musquash Estuary as a Marine Protected Area under the Canada Oceans Act.]

Objective: to review and actively participate in the process required for the implementation of a Pilot Study in the Musquash Estuary, to recommend next steps, to participate in the review of a Marine Protected Area designation and its associated management plan.

Composition: Individuals or groups that attended previous meetings (see above) were contacted and informed of the formation of a MPA review committee. While participation as representatives of recognized groups was encouraged, all community members who attended were welcome. Minutes of each meeting are available to the community. Composition is expected to change according to requirements.
